Found Supplies

Let me show you how to take a "found"  supply item and turn it into a fun scrapbook page or card.   We went to a renaissance fair a few weeks ago and I decided that the paper lining my chicken and chips basket would make a perfect background for a page highlighting the event.  I said, "I'm going to ask for a couple sheets of this paper" and Ron said "You're not, are you?".  To which I replied, "Just watch me!".  I offered to pay, but the clerks were happy to give me a couple sheets.
  

I carefully rolled them up, successfully brought them home and created these neat pages.  I wish I had taken pictures before I started working with the papers.  They were thin, almost like vellum, so needed to be adhered to cardstock for stability. Not having any vellum adhesive, I searched my supplies and came upon this spray adhesive.  Outdoors, I sprayed the back of the papers and then carefully adhered them to the cardstock.  I used a brayer to insure good adhesion.  The corners wanted to come up, so I did use a little Liquid Glass from CTMH and that worked perfectly.

I almost always leave a white border around my pictures and this time double matted with Saffron (a lovely new color from CTMH) and Barn Red (unfortunately retired).  Double matting helped them pop off the busy background.  I stamped banners in these two colors with the Bodacious Banners (D1607) stamp set from CTMH.  I stamped them on Colonial White cardstock and hand trimmed them, but there also cutting files on the Art Philosophy Cricut cartridge. I used brads from my stash to separate the pennants and make them pop.

Snowhaven Cards

As promised, here are a few cards created from the Snowhaven paper packet.  I have chosen to use Christmas as my theme for these cards.

The first card uses the Mary and Babe stamp set (C1562) located on page 72 of the Annual Inspirations book.  I followed the basic pattern shown there. Not having all the colors in our Shinhan marker line, I chose to just stamp the image in Slate.

The second card highlights one of the very cute stamps in Home for the Holidays, the October Stamp of the Month (S1410).  It is a wonderful set that will be perfect for your Christmas cards, tags and layouts.  It will be available in October for $17.95 or just $5.00 with a $50.00 purchase.

I used Snowhaven patterned paper and White Daisy, Slate and Cranberry cardstock to make these cards.  Inks included Glacier, Slate and Cranberry. I also used some Sliver and Teal Shimer Trim and Silver Geometric Washi Tape, Silver Sequins and Clear Sparkles.

Confetti Wishes

Today is the reveal day for the new Annual Inspirations idea book and catalog and I think that Confetti Wishes is the perfect paper packet to celebrate!  For those of you that have have been following me, you know that I am plodding along with my attempts to finish scrapbooks for my grown children.  The pictures from so long ago have been scanned from slides or not so great photos.  However, with the gorgeous papers and embellishments from Close to My Heart, even poor quality photos can be part of a stunning layout. Take a look at this one:

I have used the Confetti Wishes packet (X7189B) which features two of the new colors in the palette, Thistle and Canary.  The photo misrepresents the Thistle as it is more red-purple.  However the Canary is pretty true...it is a brighter yellow with a really pleasant softness to it.  The design credit goes to Scrapbook.com.  I cut the circles at 2" with the Art Philosophy cartridge and the white circles at.2.2".  After layering them, they were cut in half and used as the border.  Finally, the puppy, etc. were stamped with a new stamp set, Puppy Party (B 1464).  The puppy and birthday hat were fussy cut and layered.  I added color to the eyes and the collar with our new Shinhan alcohol based markers.

Last month for Lollydoodle!

July is the last month that all the current paper packets will be available, so I will visit some of them with you.  Today, we will take a look at Lollydoodle, a packet I have highlighted in the past.

Just one to love!

Other than the White Daisy cardstock, Silver Shimmer Trim and the white baker's twine, this card was made with retired product, but it turned out so cute and I want to share it with you.  The stamp set was the December 2013 Stamp of the Month. Using the card shown with the SOTM in the idea book as inspiration, I used the Handle with Care stamp to stamp a background, creating my own patterned paper. The embellishment was cut with the Art Philosophy Cricut cartridge and then stamped.

This card is for my newest grandchild, Isla (eye-la) Carolynn.  What a sweetheart she is!

So here's a challenge.  Take a look at your stamps and find one or more that will create a wonderful background for your card or your layout.  It can be understated as this one or bright and bold, depending on the look you want.  It's all up to you!

Wow, I knew I had not posted for a long time, but was kind of surprised to see that Feb 27 was the last time I shared with you.  I have been spending a lot of time locating and scanning old pictures of our children.  My goal in the next few months is to complete scrapbooks of the highlights of their childhoods.  Many of my upcoming posts will be throwback layouts, but I will be using many of the new papers from Close to My Heart.  So, I am sorry for my absence and hope you will check in the future weeks to see what I am creating.

The layout for today uses the Lollydoodle paper packet, a group of fun designs that highlight the colors of Cotton Candy, Juniper, Pear, Sorbet and Slate.  It is shown with stamp sets that feature owls, feathers and good friends.  Here I have designed a layout using Pattern 11 in Make it From Your Heart, Volume 2.  The Strawberry Shortcake was downloaded from the internet and I used the KG Strawberry Limeade font, free from the net, to cut my letters on my Gazelle.

I also used a scrap from Lollydoodle along with scraps from paper sets that I don't even remember the name of to created this second layout.  This is one of the beauties of CTMH.  With the Exclusive Palette, it is easy to coordinate papers to create a pleasing layout.

Last, but not least, is a card that also uses Lollydoodle.  The scalloped square was cut with the Art Phiosophy Cricut Cartridge and the Happy Birthday was stamped with Joyful Birthday Occasions B1419.

Fun with Hearts!

I loved this card when I saw it on Pinterest (thanks Mary Gunn).

 

 I created the heart cut-outs on my computer for my Gazelle cutting machine and used the negative space backed with patterned paper.  This can also be done with the Art Philosophy cartridge from Close to My Heart and the Cricut Craft Room.  A heart punch will also work.  Again I turned to my scraps stash and created cards for several occasions. Common to all of them is Glimmer Trim, my favorite CTMH embellishment. 

 

 

Peace and Joy

Here is a simple card using the Sparkle and Shine paper packet.  The oval cutout is stamped with the Frame It Up stamp set shown on page 96 of the Autumn and Winter Idea Book and the stamp set that is included in the Workshops on the Go Frosted Cardmaking Kit.  I tried both the Silver and Red Shimmer Trim and like the Silver better.

This design will work perfectly with any sentiment and paper selection.  Below is a repost showing the card in For Always. There is no limit to the possibilities!

 

Mixing it Up!

One of the great things about Close to My Heart is the Exclusive Color Palette that makes it impossibly easy to mix and match papers from different packets! With matching inks, cardstock, and embellishments, the guesswork is eliminated and you can create stunning layouts and cards every time!

This layout is created with papers from three different packets and they go together beautifully.  Of the three, only the gray is current--it can be found in the Huntington packet.

By the way, I have finished my Cruise album and this is the last picture I will be posting from our vacation. Aren't you glad?  Even I am tired of it...feels like I was on this trip for months!  Be watching the blog for card ideas and decorative items for your home--time to mix things up here too!
